◆地層のパーティシリーズについて◆

数種類の土を混ぜ合わせたり組み合わせたりして制作したシリーズです。
土のダイレクトな質感や、異なる色味のコンビネーションの楽しさと、
またどこか焼き菓子を思わせるような、おいしそうな感じもしないでしょうか。

土は乾燥と焼成の過程で少し縮みますが、土によってその縮む率が異なります。
そのため、違う種類の土同士をただくっつけるとどこかの過程で壊れてしまうことが多いのですが、このシリーズでは、何種類かの異なる土を少しずつ混ぜ合わせたりして質をを調整し、壊れずに一つのピースとなるように作りました。

長いこと地球のそれぞれの場所で、層の一部としてじっと存在していたのを、発見され、発掘・精製されたそれぞれの土たち。それらを自分の手で混ぜ合わせて小さな物体にまとめるのは、楽しくも不思議な気持ちがします。
そして、そのように制作する中で、＜英語の「party」という単語には、もともと「分かたれたがもう一度寄せ集められたもの」という意味合いがある＞と以前本で読んだのを思い出し、このシリーズ名を思いつきました。

また、原土（掘り出したまま精製していない土）も使用しているため、土に含まれる鉄分や長石などの成分が表面に溶け出して黒点や泡粒のように表れていることがあります。味わいとしてお楽しみいただけると幸いです。

◆About A Party of Clay Strata series◆

This series is created by combining and blending several types of clay.
It highlights the raw, tactile quality of the earth and the joy of color combinations between different clays.
You might also feel there's something a bit delicious about them—like baked sweets, don't you think?

Clay naturally shrinks during drying and firing, but the rate of shrinkage differs depending on the type of clay.
Simply attaching different clays together usually leads to cracking or breakage at some stage.
In this series, I carefully adjusted the properties by subtly mixing several kinds of clay, ensuring they come together as a cohesive piece.

Each type of clay in this work once lay quietly as part of the earth’s strata in different locations, but they were discovered, excavated, and refined.
Using these clays with my own hands to make small pieces fills me with a sense of wonder.

While working with that feeling, I was reminded of something I once read:
The English word “party” originally carried the meaning of “things once separated, brought together again.”
So I came up with the name for this series from that.

Some of the pieces use raw clay (unrefined, as dug from the ground), so you may notice iron or feldspar from the clay surface appearing as dark spots or bubble-like textures.
I hope you enjoy these natural variations as part of the charm.
